The first steps in the High Court case being taken by the Napier Public Health Action Group against the Minister of Conservation, the Minister of Health, and the Crown Health Financing Agency were heard yesterday.

The short conference was devoted to procedural matters, establishing dates by which plaintiff and defendants have to file papers.

It was confirmed that the process would be swift tracked.

The Group’s challenge is on two grounds, the trust status of the land, and the authorities’ failure to consult appropriately.

A further conference was set down for the week beginning 16 October.
