Power restored at Counties Manukau District Health Board
Power has been restored to Middlemore Hospital and other affected Counties Manukau District Health Board sites.
Although the power outage forced the cancellation of all non-urgent surgery and the hospital was forced to run on an emergency generator, Acute Services Manager Dot McKeen says the emergency department was able to remain fully operational.
Patients were well cared for throughout the day and only a small number of appointments were cancelled, due to a coinciding education day for staff.
Patients with appointments scheduled for the next two days may be affected because of our need to ensure acute surgery is up to date for the upcoming Junior Doctors Strike from the 15th to the 20th of June.
During this time we urge the public to keep the emergency department for emergencies only, and to see their GP or local accident and medical clinic for non-urgent injuries or illnesses.
We would like to thank staff, patients and their families for their cooperation during this time.
