Sky Tower Turns Pink for Breast Cancer in October

Auckland’s Sky Tower will again be the first monument in the world to light up pink to support the Global Illumination campaign for breast cancer in October.

From the first of October, cities around New Zealand and the world will glow pink as part of the International Global Illumination Campaign promoting global awareness of breast cancer.

Pink illuminated buildings, pink ribbons and wristbands, pink themed fundraising events, and pink collection buckets will all make a splash in October as The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation once again hits the fundraising trail nationwide.

Funds raised help the Foundation continue to provide free nationwide community education, research, medical grants and scholarships, seminars, a breast cancer patient register and advocacy.

SKYCITY Auckland’s Sky Tower will be the very first to be lit pink at dusk on Saturday 1st October, followed by:

- Rotorua’s City Focus Lights

- SKYCITY Hamilton

- Wellington’s Michael Fowler Centre

- Dunedin’s Cenotaph

- Invercargill’s Water Tower

- Gisborne’s Clock Tower

Internationally, they will be joined by landmarks such as Kensington Palace in London, the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Tokyo Tower, Table Mountain in Cape Town, and the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy.

Special fundraising events will also take place throughout the country, with all the funds raised staying in New Zealand to help in the fight against breast cancer, which claims about 600 lives each year – more than the annual road toll.

The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation is a charitable Trust that aims to reduce the number of New Zealanders who die from breast cancer and improve the outcomes and quality of life for those affected by breast cancer.
