Right To Life Urges Lesley Martin Be Removed
Right To Life Urges Nursing Council To Remove Lesley
Martin
The Nursing Council of New Zealand has a duty to uphold the sanctity of life ethic. Right to Life hopes that the Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal will act decisively at its hearing this day to protect the community by removing Lesley Martins name from the register of nurses.
The Tribunal has a duty to protect the vulnerable in our community especially the elderly, the handicapped and the terminally ill.
Lesley Martin has broken the law and violated the ethics of the nursing profession by being found guilty of attempting to kill her mother who was her patient. She also breached the trust of the doctor responsible for the care of her mother Jean Martin and refused palliative care that was offered for her mother.
The nursing profession has a well deserved reputation for the care of the sick and those in a terminal condition. Failure to strike Lesley Martin off the register of nurses would be a grave injustice and a victory for a culture of death.
