CDHB Health Services Continuing During The Strike

The five day strike by 400 NUPE health workers has so far had minimal impact on health services within the Canterbury District Health Board.

Spokesperson Hospital & Specialist Service General Manager Jock Muir said the morning had gone without incident.

‘Our first priority has been to ensure the continued delivery of safe services to the public. Our contingency plans are in place and at this stage services are continuing with minimal disruption.’

The strike involves clinical, clerical and support staff.

Mr Muir said the union had been advised the CDHB would make an offer for its clinical staff and was prepared to meet to discuss further.

‘We are disappointed that in spite of this offer and the fact that we also told the union we were prepared to meet and discuss progress for clerical and support staff, so far it has declined to meet with us.’

Mr Muir said the CDHB remained prepared and ready to meet with the union at any time to move the issues forward.
