New Zealand’s Organ Donor Problems Make Interesting Reading Overseas

New Zealand’s ailing organ donor system is gaining increasing interest overseas a website statistics report shows.

Figures released by organ donation reform group ‘GiveLife NZ’ shows that for the first half of this year their website attracted over 210,000 hits.

127,000 of the hits came from 51 different countries, with the remaining 83,000 hits generated from within New Zealand.

Andy Tookey, promoter of GiveLife NZ believes the increase is partly due to the international perception that New Zealand is innovative and is likely to lead the world in new ways of solving the problem, “they are checking the website to see what progress is being made. Unfortunately they’ll be disappointed, as there is no policy, direction or leadership on the matter.”

Figures further show that many overseas governments and health providers regularly visit the site to track any developments that may be happening.

The United States Government has visited the site 190 times this year, and more interestingly the US Department of Defense have visited 177 times.

“The Ministry of Health in New Zealand must be unaware of what the problems are, as they have had to visit my website one-and-a-half thousand times this year to find out what they are. We are now an international embarrassment in organ donation.” Said Mr. Tookey.

GiveLife NZ will be using the statistics to further develop their website to reach more people.
