HBDHB to be surveyed, audited by Quality Health NZ

HBDHB to be surveyed and audited by Quality Health New Zealand

Next week from Tuesday 9th August until Friday 12th August a team of surveyors from Quality Health New Zealand will be surveying and auditing services provided in Hawke’s Bay District Health Board’s hospital, community and mental health facilities.

Earlier this year the Board’s services at Wairoa, Central Hawke’s Bay and the Chatham Islands were certified and accredited, this time round the surveyors are focusing on the facilities and services provided at Hastings.

Says Dr Dinesh Arya, chief medical advisor “The surveyors will be checking our quality systems and care processes, inspecting documentation and talking to staff and patients/clients of services.

“Some patients may be interviewed by a surveyor. Participation by any member of the public will be voluntary, and surveyors would ask for a patient’s consent before talking to them about the care they have received.”

During the week the surveyors will be auditing the DHB against the mandatory health and disability standards and surveying the DHB against the Health Accreditation standards.

Dr Arya said the results would provide tangible evidence of the DHB’s commitment to providing the best quality of care possible to patients and clients and providing a safe and supportive environment for staff.

What is certification?
Health and disability standards for all hospitals, rest homes and residential services came into effect 1 October 2004. The standards ensure people can expect a basic, consistent level of safe services to be provided at residential health facilities. Compliance with these standards is mandatory and is evaluated by external audit.
