Organisations join together for Early Support

CCS, a provider of support and services to people with disabilities, launched its Awareness Week campaign today to get backing from Government to commit to early support for all disabled children and their families.

The “Let’s get in early” campaign sees CCS partnering with other organisations to bring awareness of a key issue for the first time. These are Plunket, Barnardos, IHC, Parents Centre, DPA, Ripple Trust, and Parent to Parent.

“It’s about making sure families get on the track to a rewarding future for themselves and their children as early as possible. We want the new Government, whoever that may be, to commit to early support for all disabled children and their families. To make early support services an urgent priority,” says Viv Maidaborn CEO, CCS.

The “Let’s get in early” campaign makes direct contact with Ministers, MP’s and spokespeople from all major parties by members, staff and supporters sending postcards and also emails from a campaign website, www.letsgetinearly.org . Representatives from all organisations launched the campaign today by presenting Ministers Annette King and Pete Hodgson with campaign packs on the steps of Parliament.

“Every child deserves to have the best possible start in life,” says Murray Edridge CEO, Barnardos. “This campaign is about ensuring that those children and families that need additional early help to be the best that they can be have the targeted assistance they need. Loving, resilient families for children with disabilities must become a significant goal for Government and for our community,”

“Right now there is a gap in the coordinated support provided to disabled children and their families, particularly when a family learns their child has a disability. The “Let’s get in early” campaign is about looking toward the future and working with Government,“ says Viv Maidaborn.
