Children Need Breakfast Before Vaccinations
Parents of school children are reminded to ensure their children have breakfast before heading to school every day.
With the launch of the Meningococcal B Immunisation School Based Campaign this week, Southland Project Manager Judi Dennis said it is extremely important that children do not come to school having eaten nothing before they are vaccinated.
Dates of school vaccinations will not be released to pupils so children need to come to school prepared every day.
“The MeNZB™ vaccine is safe and we expect very few reactions, however children who have not eaten anything and become anxious may well start to feel unwell.”
Mrs Dennis said vaccinating nurses are fully trained to deal with all situations, but parents can help by ensuring their children arrive at school having eaten breakfast.
Nurses will be visiting all schools in the Southland and Wakatipu regions over the next few weeks, administering the first in a series of three vaccinations to protect against meningococcal B disease.
