DHB Radiographers To Strike

DHB Radiographers To Strike

Fifty radiographers from Counties Manukau District Health Board, members of the New Zealand Nurses’ Organisation, have filed notice of strike action. The move is a last resort, following failed voluntary mediation.

The radiographers are seeking fair pay increases in line with recent settlements for other radiographers around the country, and with their nursing and midwifery colleagues who have similar skills, knowledge, experience and responsibilities.

According to NZNO organiser Mark Lennox, the employer has not changed its position since negotiations began early last December. “The DHB is claiming it’s unable to move outside funding parameters of two percent. The offer does not even keep up with inflation, let alone recognise the value of those in this profession,” he said.

Initially the radiographers will strike between noon and 5pm on Tuesday 24 May. “Unfortunately we have no alternative but to take action at this point in time. We will take action that causes as little disruption as possible to acute services at Middlemore Hospital, but we will escalate action if necessary,” Lennox said.
