Karamu Stream Still Off Limits, Clive River Clear
Following Tuesdays sewage spill in to the Karamu Stream, Hawke’s Bay District Health Board’s medical officer of health, Dr Caroline McElnay, said results to-date show the sewage has dispersed and warnings placed on the Clive River - downstream of the rowing club can now be lifted.
However, Dr Caroline McElnay still advised avoiding any recreational water activities on the Karamu Stream from Havelock North down to the Rowing Club due to residual contamination.
Further samples are being taken by Hawke's Bay Regional Council and the warnings for the Karamu Stream will be lifted when the sample results are lower than the Recreational Water guidelines.
Warning signs will be removed from the Clive River this afternoon.
