Greencross Pleased At Neville Yates Release
Wed, 12 Jan 2005
GreenCross Medicinal Cannabis Support Group of NZ Inc is pleased to see that Neville Yates has today been released from prison. Mr. Yates was imprisoned last year for trying to improve the quality of his life with the use of cannabis after having suffered horrific injuries as a teenager.
While we celebrate his release from prison we can only condemn those who support a system that would punish a person who honestly asks for help to reduce pain and suffering. Our cannabis laws, having been designed over thirty years ago, are simply draconian and outdated. They do not take into account the advances we have made in regard to cannabis being used as medicine.
On top of that we still have some judges who cannot see that honesty should be rewarded and that we are entitled not to be treated in a cruel manner. To jail some one for medicinal cannabis use in the face of supportive medical evidence is nothing more than a cruel, inhumane and demeaning use of judicial power. If we cannot show compassion to those who act honestly what hope is there for society?
