Culverden Refutes Claims
Culverden Refutes Claims
Statement by Ian Anderson, Chief Executive Officer, Culverdencare Centre & Hospital
Culverdencare Centre & Hospital totally refutes the claims made against it in TV3’s 20/20 programme.
The programme was tailored to tell only one side of a legal disagreement that has been in progress for more a year and is shortly to go to legal mediation.
The programme was outrageously unfair and unbalanced, and made no attempt to give equal prominence to Culverdencare’s position.
I watched the 20/20 programme in the company of more than 70 residents, their families and well wishers, and we were all dismayed at the bias of the programme towards a care facility that has operated in Manukau City for more than 20 years and provides care for more than 160 people.
I regard the coverage as hurtful and a distortion of the truth.
The vast majority of the 160 people receiving care at Culverdencare are fed up with the actions of a minority. It is causing disharmony and hurt, and there is concern that the wild claims being made will lead to the closure of their home.
In an attempt to resolve the legal dispute, both parties have agreed to go to mediation, and we are awaiting a date for that to be set.
This mediation will cover all the issues raised about fees, administration charges and documentation to support these fees and charges.
It is my intention to make no further public statements until after the legal dispute between the two parties has completed mediation.
