Jail The Sick & Poor Yet Discharge The Rich?

Jail The Sick & Poor Yet Discharge The Rich?

Greencross Medicinal Cannabis Support Group of NZ Inc. hopes the judge in the Neville Yates medicinal cannabis trial applies the same leniency as recently shown to others.

It is a matter of record that people claiming medicinal use of cannabis have been discharged without conviction due to the fact that their travel options or business may be affected by such a conviction. One man received this sensible discharge even though his cultivation was described by police as "sophisticated and on going" simply because of the possible effects on his business operations. GreenCross applauds this commonsense approach and would expect life / quality of life to be considered in a similar, if not more urgent manner, during these judicial decisions.

When we have doctors supporting medicinal cannabis use the courts should realise that quality of life and prevention of death are more reason to discharge without conviction than loss of travel privileges and business concerns. The police should be ashamed that they would pursue an obvious genuine medicinal user of cannabis while sending taxi s too 111 calls. GreenCross hastens to add that many police are using powers of discretion and this is to be congratulated as it allows the police budget to be used apprehending violent criminals who actually harm others and not those doing what their doctor agrees with.

Neville Yates is indeed a brave man who needs help. Should we incarcerate him for his honesty and wish to improve his quality of life?
