Smokefree website for schools launched
A new Smokefree website has been developed to assist schools with the changes to the Smoke-free Environments Act 1990.
From 1 January 2005, all schools must be 100 percent Smokefree 24 hours a day, seven days a week – and this includes all school grounds, sports fields and buildings.
The website was developed not only to assist schools with the more difficult aspects of achieving compliance with the Act, but also to encourage and support schools and Kura to develop a comprehensive approach to creating a Smokefree culture within their school. The website includes practical assistance for managing smoking, curriculum support with downloadable resources and links to many other tobacco control websites.
Schools are invited to visit the new website and enter a competition to win Smokefree branded merchandise for their schools. The address is www.smokefreeschools.co.nz
