Working party welcomed
The New Zealand Medical Association welcomes the announcement today from the Ministry of Health that a working party is to be established to look into after-hours care.
The NZMA has long been concerned about issues around the provision of health care 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and has been advocating for a working group to be set up to seek solutions, said NZMA General Practitioner Council Chair Dr Peter Foley.
“We look forward to an opportunity to participate in this working group,” he said.
“There have been increased difficulties with the provision of after-hours care, and national solutions must be found to ensure that people have access to the care they need, without an unreasonable burden being placed on General Practice.”
