Going, Going, Gagged
Health Cuts Hurt district health board election candidates applaud the openness of board members Allardyce and Bagshaw in coming out about the perilous state of democracy on the Canterbury district health board. “At least at the 11th hour they fronted up to the electors and revealed the board for what it is – an affront to democracy”, says Heather Carter, Health Cuts Hurt chairperson.
Candidates Heather Carter, Eleanor Carter, Tom Dowie and Andrew McKenzie announced that their candidacies sought the mandate to speak publicly about health matters of concern to the public. “There is a clear choice for Canterbury voters – three years of the same or a new approach, putting Cantabrians back into the health service that has alienated them for the last three years”, says Heather Carter.
“Simply we cannot continue with a
board system which even respected members have such contempt
for. It is only a shame that these members did not state the
obvious
earlier.”
