Tim Harding Appointed As Care NZ's New Chief Executive
Care NZ, New Zealand’s leading non-government provider of alcohol and drug treatment services has appointed Tim Harding
to the position of Chief Executive.
Mr Harding has had extensive management experience in the health sector; he held the position of Chief Executive of Care
NZ from 2000 to 2002, and was Chief Executive of Queen Mary Hospital in Hanmer Springs from 1998 - 2000. Prior to that
Mr Harding worked for Care NZ (then NSAD Care Ltd) as its Director of Programmes. He also played a key role in
establishing and directing the Drug Treatment Unit at Arohata Womens Prison.
Most recently he has been working as a consultant with the Mental Health Commission and leads the Addictions Blueprint
Review project, which is re-looking at current best practice, service configuration and the resources required
nationally to deliver the services needed by people experiencing addiction problems.
Care NZ Chairman, Mr Roger Holmes Miller says: “Tim has a strong personal commitment to Care NZ’s goal of providing
quality clinical treatment to those in need. The Board of Directors is pleased to have him return to the organisation as
Chief Executive.”
Care NZ was incorporated as a charitable company on 1 January 2000, having purchased the principal assets and
liabilities of the National Society on Alcohol and Drug Dependence New Zealand.
Born and raised in Wellington, Mr Harding began his career working in Sales and Marketing for Bernina Sewing Machines
(NZ) Ltd. In 1986 he co-founded and managed New Zealand’s first pizza delivery company, Pizza To You Ltd where he worked
for four years. He then became an owner and Director of Brasserie Flipp Ltd from 1990. His career in the alcohol and
other drug treatment field began in 1992.
Tim is married and his personal interests include skiing, song writing and guitar playing.
He has a post graduate qualification in Health Science from the National Addiction Centre, Christchurch School of
Medicine, and is the current Chairman of the Drug and Alcohol Practitioners Association of Aotearoa NZ (DAPAANZ); the
representative association of those who work in the AOD sector.
“Tim has considerable experience and standing in the sector, which will be invaluable in helping realise our vision of
minimising the impact of AOD abuse and dependence on the lives of New Zealanders,” Mr Miller said.
