Hawke’s Bay PHO releases draft health plan

Hawke’s Bay PHO releases draft health promotion plans

The Hawke’s Bay Primary Health Organisation (PHO) has identified two areas of health concern as part of their proposal for the PHO’s Health Promotion activities. They are: Nutrition and Physical Activity and Smokefree/Auahi Kore. Both areas have high impact on risk factors of disease and quality of life. Both are focused on improving inequalities for Maori and Pacific people.

The PHO is keen to get community feedback on their plan, especially from Maori and Pacific Island communities.

Copies of the two proposed draft plans are available by phoning the Primary Health Organisation’s acting operations manager, Julia Ebbett or Margaret-Anne Day. People have until 7 May to comment on the PHO’s plans.

The Hawke’s Bay PHO covers Napier, Hastings and Central Hawke’s Bay. The PHO was established as a structure to implement the government’s Primary Heath Care Strategy. PHO’s are not-for-profit provider organisations funded by the Hawke’s Bay District Health Board to provide primary health care services for an enrolled population. A PHO provides services directly by employing appropriately qualified and experienced staff or through its provider members. PHO’s are all about meeting the needs of the community it serves.

Hawke’s Bay District Health Board’s health promotion team leader Lee Wright is working with the PHO as they develop their health promotion plans.

“We’re taking a joint approach to these proposed health promotion initiatives, as they are both areas where the DHB has undertaken health promotion activities in the past,” said Lee.

Julia Ebbett Acting Operations Manager said, “These health promotion initiatives will serve to strengthen relationships between the DHB and Primary care, provide a vehicle for Hawke’s Bay communities to achieve healthier outcomes, together with addressing health inequalities which exist for our community”.
