Auck DHB Chair's Privatisation Suggestion Unwise

“Light Bulb Explodes In Auckland Dhb Chair’s Head”
“Auckland District Health Board chair Wayne Brown’s suggestion that the three Auckland region DHBs’ administration be privatised resembles a light bulb exploding in his head,” said Mr Ian Powell, Executive Director of the Association of Salaried Medical Specialists, today.
“Privatisation management risks increasing paper work, increasing costs because of the need to make a profit, and increased distance between management and health professionals.”
“There are good arguments for continuing to merge management functions in the wider Auckland region but privatisation would not solve existing problems. Instead privatisation would create new ones.”
“Wayne Brown should encourage the Auckland DHB to collaborate more with his DHB neighbours at Waitemata and Counties Manukau rather than invent new problems,” concluded Mr Powell.
