Nurses Extend Focus on Fairness

Today thousands of members of the New Zealand Nurses Organisation will take part in Go Purple Day – to show support for their Fair Pay campaign and to also show that fairness is about giving as well as getting.

Decked out in NZNO’s traditional colour purple and the symbols of their Fair Pay nurses, will today extend the campaign’s focus on fairness.

In hospitals and rest homes across the country NZNO members will take up workplace collections to local Women’s Refuges.

In the Far North, NZNO members’ at Whangarei Hospital will load their donations for women’s refuge will be collected in a purple trailer.

NZNO members will decorate Hastings Hospital with 500 purple balloons and posters/placards focussed on the Fair Pay message.

Even Balclutha’s tiny community-based hospital Clutha Health First will Go Purple for the day and NZNO members are collecting for women’s refuge.

The Fair Pay campaign is a campaign to achieve a fair pay rate for all nurses and midwives. Nurses are paid much lower than other professionals with similar skills, experiences and qualifications.
