Xmas Cheer For Kidz First Burns Outpatients

Christmas is coming early for young burn unit outpatients from Kidz First Children’s Hospital. For the fourth-consecutive year, as founding sponsor of the Kidz First Burn and Plastics Unit, SKYCITY is throwing a special Christmas party for approximately 100 children (aged up to 16 years) who have received treatment at the Counties Manukau hospital in the past year.

On Saturday 29 November, the children and their caregivers will be treated to a private screening of ‘Elf’ the movie at Village SKYCITY Cinemas, SKYCITY Metro, Queen Street. Festivities will include Christmas cake, popcorn, gifts and entertainment from characters from the movie; Christmas Elf, Scrooge and of course Santa Clause himself.

Children are invited to come dressed as Elves with prizes for the best Elf costume and the children will be photographed with Santa.

‘Elf’ the movie is about a playful toddler called Buddy who accidentally ended up in one of Santa's bags of presents. He grew up in the North Pole and as an adult returned to New York to find his family, where he finds that no one remembers the true meaning of Christmas. It’s up to Buddy to win over his family, realise his destiny and ultimately save Christmas for New York and the world! The movie opened November 20 at cinemas nationwide.

SKYCITY Manager Media Relations Delywn Lewer says that as the founding sponsor of the Kidz First Children’s Hospital Burn and Plastics Unit, SKYCITY is pleased to be able to extend its sponsorship to include fun and entertainment for the burn outpatients themselves.

“Through our association with Village SKYCITY Cinemas, we’re thrilled to be able to provide a magical experience to the outpatients of Kidz First Children’s Hospital at such an important time on every child’s calendar,” said Ms Lewer.

Burns co-ordinator Kidz First Burn Unit, Chris Goudie, says that the SKYCITY Christmas party is a highlight for the burn outpatients.

“After having been through so much pain and trauma it is great to see these brave children recovered and having so much fun,” said Chris Goudie.

SKYCITY has donated over $300,000 to date to the Kidz First Burn and Plastics Unit and has also funded extensive advertising campaigns promoting burn prevention and treatment messages on behalf of Kidz First.

As New Zealand’s only specialist Paediatric burn and plastic facility, Kidz First sees some 300-350 children annually for burn related injuries.
