TDH sells surplus property
Tairawhiti District Health is pleased to announce that John Clough of Ranworth Healthcare will be the new owner of Memorial Home, Sedgewick Home and Forrester House.
Tairawhiti District Health Chief Executive Jim Green said the three buildings are located at the front of the Gisborne Hospital campus next to Ormond Road.
“For some time TDH has identified these buildings as surplus to TDH’s future developments, and the Minister of Health approved a sale.
“The final decision on the sale was approved by the TDH Board at its September meeting.”
Mr Green said money raised from the sale will help with the purchase of new equipment including an infant warming table, a transport monitor, and a defibrillator.
John Clough, who is Ranworth Healthcare’s Chief Operating Officer, said he was thrilled with the purchase.
“Ranworth Healthcare provides rehabilitation for people who have experienced brain injury. We see the purchase of new buildings in Gisborne as an important opportunity to expand and develop the current local services provided.”
Mr Clough said Forrester House is expected to become Ranworth’s Gisborne administrative centre.
Meanwhile, initial proposals are that Sedgewick Home be developed into a high-care facility for people who have experienced brain injury.
“While Ranworth already has two residential care facilities in town, some Gisborne clients and their families could also benefit from a high care facility where clients can be closely monitored in a controlled environment.”
“Our objective is to assist clients down the rehabilitation pathway and to enable them to become as independent as possible.”
Mr Clough said Memorial Home, will continue to be used as residence for Gisborne Hospital staff.
He added that as part of the purchase, he will donate $5000 a year for the next five years to Tairawhiti District Health, for health related projects.
Ranworth Healthcare is expected to take ownership of the three buildings in January 2004.
