South Island Nurses and Midwives Head To Mediation with DHBs

After two days of talks, the negotiators of the Multi-Employer Collective Agreement (MECA) covering nurses, midwives and health care assistants in five South Island DHBs have agreed to seek mediation, said New Zealand Nurses Organisation advocate Glenda Alexander today.

"Although both parties have endeavoured to negotiate a new MECA, we have reached the point where we cannot agree and therefore can no longer progress the negotiations," said Glenda Alexander.

"NZNO and DHB employers have agreed to use the mediation services of the Employment Relations Service to enable us to move forward."

Glenda Alexander said mediation would take place on Thursday, 21 August.
