Christchurch School Students Get Behind Radio Fund
Christchurch School Students Get Behind Radio Fundraiser
Three girls in Year 6 at Selwyn House School in Christchurch are organizing their entire school to get behind a local radio station fundraiser for a badly burnt 9 year old Vanuatu girl.
After hearing the appeal announced on More FM, Imogen Idoine-Dunn, Henrietta Macdonald & Amelia Thompson, all 10 years old, contacted the radio station for more information. They then wrote letters to go home with every student today, asking for a donation tomorrow for 9 year old Annie Grace, who suffered extensive burns to much of her body after her dress caught fire as she was cooking the family meal recently. The little girl needs $30,000 for the surgery and so far only $4,000 has been raised nationally.
More FM Breakfast announcers, Simon Barnett and Gary McCormick, have said they won't go off air tomorrow until the money is raised.
Henrietta, Imogen and Amelia will collect the money tomorrow morning from 8am at Selwyn House School, and will then go to the MoreFM studios by about 9am to donate it, on air.
Henrietta says after studying the topic "Healthy, Wealthy and Wise" as school this term, they felt they had to do something to help.
"We have learnt that we have health, wealth and the wisdom to make a difference in the world, so this is how we will are going to try to make a difference tomorrow," she says.
Below is a copy of the note the students will be taking home today (the students finish at 3pm today):
Please help us help Annie Grace...!
Annie is 9 years old and comes from Vanuatu. She was recently cooking her family meal over an open fire when her dress caught alight and she suffered extensive burns to much of her body.
Surgeons at Middlemore Hospital in Auckland have donated their time to help Annie, but the cost of her treatment will still be $30,000.00
More FM are holding an appeal and we would like to contribute from our school community. You can help to make a difference for Annie by bringing a donation to school tomorrow. We will collect the money tomorrow morning (Friday) and take it into Si & Gary at More FM.
