South Canterbury senior doctors collective

“south canterbury senior doctors collective agreement signed”

“After marathon negotiations the senior doctors’ collective agreement with the South Canterbury District Health Board has now been signed,” said Mr Ian Powell, Executive Director of the Association of Salaried Medical Specialists, today.

The collective agreement runs from 1 July 2002 to 31 July 2003.

“Given all that has happened during these bitter conflict-ridden negotiations that included four unprecedented strikes, two stopwork meetings and many mediations, it somehow feels appropriate that this new collective agreement was signed a mere 50 days before it expires. Its improvements, however, are backdated.”

“Many issues behind this severe industrial dispute still remain unresolved. But we expect to make good progress in resolving them through the independent review of senior doctor working conditions in South Canterbury and the new national collective agreement negotiations that are currently underway,” concluded Mr Powell.
