About Agencies for Nutrition Action

Agencies for Nutrition Action (ANA), is an incorporated society established in 1992, with six principal members, the Heart Foundation, Cancer Society, Te Hotu Manawa Mäori, National Diabetes Forum, New Zealand Dietetic Association and the New Zealand Nutrition Foundation.

Sport and Recreation New Zealand and the Ministry of Health are observer members of ANA.

Our mission ANA’s mission is to work cooperatively to support New Zealanders achieve and maintain a healthy weight throughout life.

Our work Supporting cooperation The promotion of consistent messages about the importance of healthy eating and physical activity for length and quality of life is a key objective of ANA. Cooperation within the nutrition and physical activity sector is vital to achieve this. ANA support cooperation through annual regional forums, regular newsletters, and the ANA website, http://www.ana.org.nz.

Advocacy Obesity rates in New Zealand have increased dramatically in the past decade. ANA have advocated for a comprehensive environmental approach to prevent obesity, and support healthy eating and physical activity. In 2001 ANA produced the document ‘Healthy Weight New Zealand’ to highlight the issue and provide strategies for intervention.
