GOING, GOING, GONE – TO CHARITY
New Zealand’s top auctioneers dropped their gavels recently - without a cent of payment.
Finalists at the New Zealand Auctioneering Championships in Rotorua last month spent the day competing for the coveted New Zealand Champion Auctioneer title and then had to turn up again that night, to do it all over again.
Real Estate Institute of New Zealand (Inc), National President, Graeme Woodley recently presented a cheque for $7000 to Mr Trevor Grice, of the Life Education Trust, for use in drug education among young Rotorua people, arising from a charity auction held in Rotorua.
“In normal circumstances we would probably have raised half as much but the auctioneers were really fired up by the night of the Championships and even those who didn’t win took the chance to show what they were made of.
“Many innocent real estate people including myself, paid well over the odds for a range or items donated by sponsors,” Mr Woodley said.
