HMNZS CANTERBURY successfully collected the rescued Auckland yachtsman Chris Sayer from the Taiwanese fishing vessel Li Sheng today at approximately 1.00 p.m. (NZ time). Despite the testing sea conditions, crew members from CANTERBURY displayed excellent seamanship skills and quickly had Mr Sayer on board CANTERBURY for a hot shower and a hearty meal. Mr Sayer is in good health and will be arriving into Devonport Naval Base, Auckland at 10.00 a.m. Friday May 24th.
