Books Without Borders Campaign 10th - 14th Dec

Books Without Borders Campaign 10th - 14th December 2001

The major stumbling-block facing the week-long "Books Without Borders" campaign to send books to Nigeria may have been overcome, after a Karori Lions member volunteered to help transport the donated books north to Auckland.

Tom Lumb has offered to arrange pick-ups of collected books all around the Wellington region, adding to the already enormous public outpouring of goodwill that has so far accompanied the project. The campaign, which begins today (Monday) is aiming to collect enough childrens' books to fill a forty foot container waiting in Auckland, which will then be shipped to Nigeria to kick-start a literacy campaign.

Many public libraries around the country have offered to provide areas where schools and the public can drop off books they wish to donate. Most Save the Children shops also offer drop off points.

Anyone wanting more information about the campaign, which runs until Friday, can visit the project's official site at www.theglobalbridge.com/bookswithoutborders, or email Hannah Palmer at hannahpalmer@lycos.com.
