Power Points For Power Crisis
New Zealand Home Heating Association
The oldest form of heating could provide the solution to the power crisis said The New Zealand Home Heating Association, National President Andrew Pullen. “Woodburning is a renewable energy source which is an alternative to electricity,” says Mr Pullen.
The Executive Committee of the New Zealand Home Heating Association held a meeting this week to discuss New Zealand’s current power crisis. The Association’s stance is that the Government should be encouraging use of the solid fuel burners to reduce reliance on electrical heating. “For instance if a water booster is installed in a solid fuel burner, this will also help to decrease electricity usage with estimates that 47% of household electricity usage is attributed to hot water heating” says Pullen.
According to the New Zealand Home Heating Association, wood heating is proven to be the most economical alternative to electrical heating. Solid fuel burners can also be used for cooking!
From an environmental perspective wood fired heating has big advantages. Apart from being the most viable renewable energy alternative to electrical heating, wood fires are the only energy source which have zero net contribution to greenhouse gas emissions and are in accordance with the Kyoto Protocol.
The New Zealand Home Heating Association have a clear message to promote to New Zealander’s and believe the simple guidelines will provide an effective panacea to the power crisis during winter.
