The president and vice president of the Funeral Directors Association of New Zealand (FDANZ) will visit the Bay of
Plenty next week to talk in person with those who lost money invested in pre-paid funeral plans.
President Russell Gillions and vice president Wayne Lyons are keen to talk directly with those affected by the financial
collapse of Que Sera Limited, which traded as Allan Curran Funeral Services and Bay Funeral Services.
“We want to talk to these people to determine what was agreed to and find out how we can help. We are absolutely
committed to finding a solution for these people. They put their trust in a firm that was formerly a member of our
association, so we will see them right,” says Mr Gillions.
“The firm concerned refused to abide by FDANZ rules regarding the handling of pre-paid funeral funds, and is no longer a
member. FDANZ takes its role very seriously and we won’t allow the actions of one funeral director to reflect badly on
our members, or the profession.”
Mr Gillions says the public should not be wary of investing in pre-paid funeral plans. They are a sound investment and a
good idea. They remove the financial burden from the family, allow payment at today’s prices and enable the individual
to express their wishes for their funeral.
He says the only plan endorsed by the association is the FDANZ Family Bereavement Plan managed by Sovereign Life.
