Funding For Te Hau Ora O Te Tai Tokerau

Child, Youth And Family Funding For Te Hau Ora O Te Tai Tokerau

Child, Youth and Family says it is very pleased to be involved with the funding of a comprehensive new family violence service in Northland to be run by Maori social services provider Te Hau Ora o Te Tai Tokerau.

The details of funding for the service have been announced today by the Associate Minister of Social Services and employment Tariana Turia.

“The Whanau Violence Recovery Model developed by Te Hau Ora o Te Tai Tokerau is an excellent initiative by a Maori community provider aimed at helping whanau in need,” says Child, Youth and Family’s chief executive Jackie Brown.

“It is the most comprehensive, integrated service I have seen, offering help to men, women and children affected by family violence, and I congratulate them on their innovation.”

The programme will provide a full range of family violence services, ranging from crisis support, safe accommodation and a 24-hour call service through to counselling and parenting education.

“My department is very keen to work alongside Maori providers in delivering these sorts of flax roots services to whanau in need,” says Ms Brown.

“Community organizations like Te Hau Ora o Te Tai Tokerau have a very definite role to play in this type of family violence prevention work.”
