Pain On The Brain For Runners Downunder
LONDON, Aug. 23
RNewswire-AsiaNet/ -- A new survey shows Australian and New Zealand runners have pain on the brain.
Pain fills the minds of more than one out of every three people while out running Down Under.
But one quarter of runners -- both male and female -- harbour thoughts of sex and romance while out jogging.
The weather also has a dominant role to play in the minds of runners in Australia and New Zealand as they often run in
hot and demanding conditions.
The latest figures, compiled by Realrunner.com, one of the world's leading independent websites for runners of all
levels, also shatters the image of Britons as a nation of unromantic workaholics -- at least as far as runners are
concerned.
Almost 65 percent of runners in the UK say sex and romantic relationships are uppermost in their minds.
Meanwhile, runners from the USA cannot leave the office behind -- even when out jogging.
The majority of US runners worry about work commitments or the pain while they run.
Realrunner.com has asked more than 1,000 runners across the globe what they think about while jogging.
World record-holding marathon runner Tim Rogers, founder of the Realrunner.com site, said, "We are surprised at the
variations between different runners around the world.
However, it does highlight the different motives of why people from certain countries go out running. Rogers decided to
change career by setting up the website after clinching a remarkable record.
Last year he became the fastest man to run an official marathon on all seven continents of the globe -- including
Antarctica -- and finishing in New Zealand.
After achieving his goal in just 99 days -- smashing the previous record of 168 days -- he was awarded an official
Guinness World Record certificate.
When asked what he thought about while running, Rogers replied, "I am just thankful that I'm not running on Antarctica
again -- that was a real ordeal."
