Christchurch next week.
Next week sees
Education highlighted as a key election issue
in
Christchurch with a national education forum, a
student conference, and
a Quality Public Education
Coalition rally and march.
ìThese three events put the
heat on politicians to constructively engage
the key
issues surrounding education from early childhood through
to
tertiary educationî, said Darel Hall, President of the
University of
Canterbury Studentsí Association.
On
Wednesday 17 November the University of Canterbury is
hosting a
National Forum on University Education with Sir
Paul Reeves as Forum
Chair. The Forum brings together
students, staff and management of
universities, and
sector guests, to discuss the issues of fees &
loans,
access to and the quality of university education.
Speakers include
Brian Easton and Neville Blampied.
On
Thursday 18 November students from around the country will
attend a
conference at the UCSA discussing how students
can progress issues from
a student perspective.
On
Friday 19 November the Quality Public Education Coalition
has
organised a march through central Christchurch and a
rally at Victoria
Square to promote ëEducation for life -
not for profití. The main
speaker will be John Minto,
QPEC Chair. The QPEC march and rally is a
culmination of
sector group efforts from early childhood,
primary,
secondary and tertiary education
stakeholders.
