Ward wins second term as NZEI national president

Darrell Ward was today re-elected to a second year as national president of the country’s largest education union, and Amanda Coulston was re-elected national vice-president at the 116th annual meeting of NZEI Te Riu Roa.

Darrell Ward, principal of Gore Main School, was first elected to the national executive in 1990 and was elected national president for a first term in 1998. He was national vice-president in 1997-98.

Amanda Coulston, deputy principal of Pencarrow School in Wainuiomata, has served on the national executive since 1992.

“My personal challenge is about building on our past successes,” Darrell Ward told about 400 annual meeting representatives. He added that he would rely on the collective wisdom of the members.

Liz Patara, principal at Clyde Quay School in Wellington, was elected immediate past president.
