Industry Training Organisations (ITOs) have welcomed today’s announcement by the Minister of Education’s that there will be a coordinated approach to the development of an adult literacy strategy.
“ITOs will be into this boots and all. Adult literacy is fundamental to work-readiness and is already a big part of industry-based training,” Paul Williams, Executive Director of the ITO Federation said.
“It is very refreshing to hear that the Minister is aware of what ITOs have been doing as adult literacy has been an issue for ITOs for many years,” Mr Williams said.
“ITOs provide a great opportunity for the Government to quickly and efficiently improve adult literacy rates – we already do it, and are keen contribute to the development of a strategy,” he said.
“We will be writing to the Minister indicating our interest and support for this initiative and we are eager to work with other organisations to improve adult literacy levels,” Mr Williams said.
“ITOs work at the interface of education and industry, ensuring that businesses have skilled employees – literacy is a fundamental building block for industry-based training,” Mr Williams said.
