Manukau Institute of Technology has announced a new $4.5M investment in its Ōtara Campus.
The investment will create a student hub in the historic Dilworth building, refresh learning and teaching spaces and
enable the consolidation of key support services on the one campus.
The injection of funds comes on top of a recent $2M upgrade of facilities at the campus.
“MIT has a deep and ongoing commitment to Ōtara,” says MIT Chief Executive, Gus Gilmore. “It’s great to be able to show
this by investing in facilities that will provide the best learning environments for our students.”
“Ōtara is where MIT began almost 50 years ago, it’s home to both Ngā Kete Wananga marae and the Pasifika Community
Centre. It is the cultural heart of the institute.”
The investment is part of MIT’s ongoing plans to update its property footprint. This has included the relocation of
Nursing and Health studies to MIT Manukau, Creative Arts and Floristry to Ōtara, and the recent start to construction of
a new Technology Park across the road from MIT Manukau.
“The nature of delivering tertiary education has changed dramatically over the past few years,” says Gilmore. “This
investment is part of our ongoing plans to ensure we meet these needs and provide modern, fit for purpose facilities to
the community.”
Over the next 18 months staff and students will gradually relocate from the South Campus to Tech Park (when complete in
mid-2020) and the Ōtara North Campus, 500 metres away.
