The TIPENE Reopening Committee has launched a website today [3/12/18], which will allow registration from families interested in sending their boys to the proposed new school.
“This is a momentous step forward for the reopening of TIPENE,” says Committee Chairman, Joe Harawira.
“We have seen an explosion of interest since announcing the school will reopen in 2020. The website has been designed as a one-stop-portal so everyone interested can access our announcements and show their support.”
The Reopening Committee has also begun travelling around New Zealand, engaging with local communities about the school. Four hui have been held so far, in Wellington, Whakatane, Manukau and Hamilton.
“Nearly 200 parents and whanau have attend our hui, with an additional 355 joining online via livestream. The website will help simplify the registration process and ensure streamlined dissemination of information, as engagement with Government, stakeholders and funders continues to progress,” Mr Harawira says.
“Reopening TIPENE has always been about creating a new school, based on contemporary needs, which is also able to drive successful educational outcomes for Māori boys.
“We hope this website will allow us to work more closely with our communities, and ensure TIPENE is ready to open in 2020,” Mr Harawira says.
The website can be accessed at www.tipenereopening.nz. Details on the next national hui, to be held in Gisborne, will be announced on Wednesday.
