New Zealand-headquartered Cognition Education Group launches UK government-funded career-changer teacher recruitment
programme.
Headquartered in New Zealand, global education company, Cognition Education Group is being funded by the UK Department
for Education to launch a new programme ‘Transition to Teach’ aimed at promoting teaching to career changers.
As part of the UK government’s commitment to invest over £10 million towards those changing careers to join the teaching
profession, Cognition’s experienced team developed an exciting new initiative which aims to promote new career
opportunities in teaching to successful professionals interested in changing careers.
Transition to Teach identifies and supports professionals who have already had a successful career in business and
industry to make the transition to becoming a teacher. The ambitious scheme focuses on encouraging professionals to
recognise how their existing skills and experience can be applied to the classroom environment, to make a positive
impact on young people. Transition to Teach therefore works to support the UK government’s plan to assist schools in
attracting talented teachers to provide an outstanding level of education across the country.
The programme will be managed by the UK based Cognition Education team, and participants on the programme receive
tailored support at each stage of the process, from the initial application through to the end of their first year in
teaching. An advisor is assigned to ensure the process runs seamlessly, helping each individual realise their full
potential and successfully make the transition into the teaching profession.
Cognition Education is one of three organisations backed by this multi-million-pound investment to recruit and support
up to 600 teachers over the next two years. Tina Lucas, Group CEO of Cognition Education said, “We passionately believe
that those who have had successful careers in other sectors have tremendous experience that can be brought to bear in
schools. We are proud to be leading this programme and to be highlighting the transferrable skills that individuals can
bring to the classroom that will encourage and inspire the next generation.”
This is not the first initiative the company has managed in the UK to support teacher recruitment. Over the past two
years the company was also awarded a contract to run the Further Pathways programme by the Education Training Foundation
aimed at promoting teaching in the FE sector as a graduate career option.
Cognition Education Group was originally established in New Zealand and now successfully offers its expertise to more
than 2000 clients across the world, including 30 governments, and has positively impacted the lives of more than two
million learners worldwide.
