NZEI Te Riu Roa welcomes a draft Government strategic plan for early childhood education released for consultation today.
Early childhood representative on NZEI's National Executive, Virginia Oakly said the union would be considering the plan carefully, and planned to encourage submissions from members.
"We are pleased the Government is opening a long-overdue conversation about early childhood education."
NZEI would make a submission, and has already consulted with ECE members about their vision for the sector and released a brief report with recommendations.
"We will continue to raise issues such as funding ECE services to ensure they are able to have 100% qualified teachers, and the privatised nature of the provision of early childhood education."
