NZEI and Ministry head to Employment Relations Authority over teacher negotiations
2 November 2018
Primary teachers' union NZEI TE Riu Roa and the Ministry of Education are set to begin facilitation on Monday, 5 November at 10.30am, in an attempt to make progress on collective agreement negotiations for primary teachers and principals.
Facilitation will be conducted by the Chief of the Employment Relations Authority, James Crichton at 50 Customhouse Quay, Wellington.
NZEI Te Riu Roa President Lynda Stuart will be arriving at the ERA at 10.15am and will be available to speak with media prior to facilitation starting.
Facilitation is expected to continue through the week.
The Authority is able to make non-binding recommendations to the parties and NZEI will present any recommendations to members for consideration.
The joint application from the two parties was accepted on 26 October, with the Authority finding there were multiple grounds for accepting the application: bargaining has been protracted, further strike action is planned, and that the strike action would likely have a substantial effect on the public interest.
Nationwide regional rolling strikes starting in the week of 12 November are still scheduled to proceed.
