ENZ takes out global marketing prize
Education New Zealand’s 1 million cents scholarship has beaten a wide field of international nominees to take out the marketing campaign prize at the 2018 PIEoneer Awards in London.
The event, celebrating global achievement in international educaiton, saw winners from ten regions and countries recognised for their achievements in areas including championing diversity (Global Leader Experience Abroad), increasing access to education (Daughter’s for Life) and digital innovation (Study Portals).
Organised by The PIE News brand, held in London on 7 September this month, the 2018 PIEoneer winners had a distinctive focus on increase diversity within international education.
In receiving the outstanding contribution to the industry award, Dr Dwyer focussed on the importance of increasing the number of students studying abroad, particularly those from diverse backgrounds.
“I think in today’s political context, it’s particularly hard to deliver challenging, meaningful study abroad experience for students,” she said.
“We spend a lot of time, and energy, and resources on helping students from underrepresented [groups]. I think it’s really important that we continue all to really commit ourselves to diversifying our student bodies because everyone benefits from that.”
IES Abroad sends well over 8,000 students per year to study and intern abroad and Dwyer has committed to broadening participation to include ethnically diverse students and achieved substantial growth in participation while at the helm of Chicago-based not-for-profit.
The PIEoneer of the Year winner, Daughters for Life, focuses its efforts on increasing the number of Middle Eastern women studying abroad to bring peace to the Middle East, while accommodation provider International Students House won for its approach to creating connections between international and domestic students.
Amy Baker, The PIE’s managing director, said she was delighted by the response to the PIEoneers, which grew to fifteen categories for the 2018 event and attracted over 210 nominations from 24 countries.
“International education is a truly global industry and The PIE is a global brand. It is important to celebrate the achievements of our diverse readers who are pioneering new ways forward in areas such as education delivery, language learning and diversity so that together, stakeholders can be inspired by each other’s initiatives and help broaden access and improve outcomes,” she said.
“Being shortlisted for a PIEoneer Award itself is an achievement and exemplifies the passion of individuals and organisations for this industry. I congratulate everyone who nominated for this year’s event and look forward to seeing more applications in 2019.”
