NZTC offers 75% ECE teacher scholarship to support campaign to attract teachers
New Zealand Tertiary College (NZTC) steps up to support the early childhood education (ECE) sector to encourage ECE training of teachers with a limited time scholarship opportunity.
An NZQA Category 1 education provider, NZTC has a 36 year history of supporting early childhood teachers and teacher education in New Zealand. After careful consideration on how best to support the sector’s current teacher shortage, NZTC has decided to endorse the Ministry of Education ‘become a teacher’ campaign with substantial scholarships.
Scholarships are available for domestic students who enrol in the Graduate Diploma of Teaching (ECE), the Bachelor of Teaching (ECE) (first year) or the New Zealand Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care (Level 5) and commence their study journey in 2018.
“As New Zealand’s largest provider of early childhood teacher education, we are privileged to be in the position to support qualified teacher numbers to grow. While confident that our highly skilled graduates will be rich with the necessary knowledge and skills to ensure children in their care develop into happy, independent, lifelong learners,” NZTC Chief Executive Selena Fox said.
The Graduate Diploma in Teaching (ECE) and Bachelor of Teaching (ECE) both feature a strong practical component, with students eligible to apply for New Zealand teacher registration after graduating.
Degree holders of any discipline looking to gain knowledge and skills in the area of early childhood education will find the 15-month Graduate Diploma in Teaching (ECE) ideal, while those without a degree who are new to early childhood education will benefit from the Bachelor of Teaching (ECE).
“Our ECE teacher scholarships will encourage people passionate about the education of young children, who are considering first time study or wanting to make a career change to do that now, at a time the sector has a strong need for registered ECE teachers.”
