The New Zealand Home-based ECE Association has been actively involved in consultation with the Ministry of Education Home-based ECE Review Team. We welcome the Review of Home-based ECE as an opportunity to ensure high quality learning outcomes for children in Aotearoa New Zealand.
The New Zealand Home-based ECE Association represents the largest number of Home-based ECE providers, visiting teachers and educators throughout New Zealand. Home-based ECE services provide the lowest regulated ratios for children of all early learning services, and this is one of the many reason parents choose Home-based ECE for their child.
Susan Phua, President of the New Zealand Home-based ECE Association said, “We are in the process of seeking feedback and information from our members about the way successful Home-based ECE models operate, so that we can provide useful feedback to the Home-based ECE Review Team”.
The New Zealand Home-based ECE Association believes it is important that whatever the Ministry of Education puts in place, it must be designed to provide high quality home-based early childhood education. There must also continue to be a choice for parents to choose the type of early learning service that is best for their child and family.
“As an Association we agree that the Government needs to have confidence that the funding is directly linked to quality learning outcomes for children” said Susan. “We embrace the introduction of minimum qualifications, and we are keen to have further discussions on how this can also lead to further qualification pathways for educators.”
We look forward to continuing to work closely with the Ministry of Education on the planning and process for the Review of Home-based ECE, as well as the 10 Year Strategic Plan for Early Learning. – to ensure that the voice of the Home-based sector is heard.
