CITY & GUILDS - CO-SPONSOR OF THE NATIONAL SECONDARY SCHOOL CHALLENGE (NSSCC)
City & Guilds Pacific have been proud sponsors of the National Secondary School Culinary Challenge (NSSCC) run by the ‘Culinary Arts Development Trust’ since 2014. Each year the Regionals and National final showcases some very talented high school students whom show an amazing amount of passion and skills in an industry that is constantly evolving and close to our hearts.
THE GRAND FINAL - 4TH SEPTEMBER 2018 @ Manukau Institute of Technology, NT Block - 1:00PM
The National Finalists are:
WelTec – Trades Academy, Napier Girls High School, Whanganui High School, Burnside High School, Kings High School, Manurewa High School, Long Bay College, Te Awamutu College.
The Competition:
‘A team of two competitors who prepare, cook and present, individually plated, four (4) portions of an entrée and four (4) portions of a main course within 90 minutes.
The entrée must contain fresh New Zealand grown tomato as the principal component of the dish.
The main course must include at least three (3) fresh New Zealand grown vegetables, one of which must be a potato. The protein component is to be from a chicken breast, skin on, and bone in (One (1) per portion)’
In addition to the overall winner’s prize pack, each of the 16 finalists have an opportunity to apply for TWO (2) x $2000 scholarship to study catering/hospitality within a City & Guilds approved centre of their choice. The winners are chosen during the competition by renowned industry chef judges. They look for students with the ‘X-Factor ‘and who they would employ to be in their kitchen.
The last two years have seen all scholarship recipients currently completing our City & Guilds cookery qualifications at Sky City - Auckland. Sam Heaven is one of these and in addition to him striving to be the best chef he can be, he is also inspiring others and sharing his journey through social media - VIDEO
