NZITP welcome increased tuition subsidy

The New Zealand Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics (NZITP) welcome the announcement today by the Minister of Education Hon Chris Hipkins that the Government has agreed to increase the per student subsidy by 1.6% from 2019.
NZITP spokesperson, Charles Finny, said the sector has been requesting this increase for some time and is grateful that the Minister has listened and taken positive action.
“NZITP believes that the failure to inflation-adjust this subsidy over the past 10 years (apart from a 1% increase in the previous government’s last year in office) is a big contributor to the current financial challenges being faced by some in the sector,” said Mr Finny.
