Finding new horizons and pushing the boundaries will be central themes in a two-day Pasifika Fono for educators, which opens in Auckland this Thursday (19 April).
The NZEI Te Riu Roa bi-annual conference, Wayfinders: Discovering New Horizons, is aimed at Pasifika educators and educators of Pasifika children.
Keynote speakers include historian and Rhodes Scholar Toeolesulusulu Damon Salesa, Pasifika Health and Wellbeing expert Dr Jemaima Sipaea Tiatia-Seath, Pasifika navigator Ema Siope, sports psychologist to the All Blacks Gilbert Enoka and more than 30 workshops.
Topics include cultural responsiveness, the realities of a first time principal, Pasifika principals working collaboratively, reconnecting to culture through music and dance, Pasifika ECE in survival mode, growing polycultural leaders, suicide prevention and many more.
More than 200 delegates will attend the conference to soak up the latest research, success stories and effective teaching practice relevant to Pasifika educators and students.
The event at Waipuna Conference Centre in Mt Wellington is open to media.
