The Treasury Schools Challenge returns for 2018

The Treasury Schools Challenge returns for 2018

The Treasury is pleased to announce that they will be holding the Treasury Schools Challenge in 2018. Open to students enrolled in a New Zealand secondary school, the challenge provides entrants an insight into the range of work performed at the Treasury while allowing them to test their analytical skills on a real-life policy issue.

Students may enter as teams or individuals, with prizes awarded to the best of both. For the first time, submissions to the challenge are not limited to a 2000 word essay. This year students may also submit their entry as an A3 document or video clip. Entrants are set the task of taking on the role of an analyst developing a briefing to the Tax Working Group. Students may enter as teams or individuals, with prizes awarded to the best of both.

Winners will be announced on 1 June and will be given the opportunity to discuss their submission with Treasury and Victoria University staff at the Treasury offices during a prize giving ceremony while also being given an inside look at how the organisation runs on a day to day basis. The overall winners of the Schools Challenge will be awarded with a $2000 scholarship from Victoria University, and “best in class” will receive a $1000 scholarship.

Registration to the competition closes on 16 April 2018 and submissions to the challenge are due by 16 May 2018.
