Education Experience Giving Children An Inside Look At The Human Body
Friday 9 February 2018
First of its kind, internationally acclaimed exhibition featuring real human bodies is landing in Auckland on 23 April 2018. Gunther von Hagens’ BODY WORLDS Vital is set to be an educational eye opener.
The exhibition, stationed at Hilton Exhibition Centre (Princes Wharf, Auckland), will give children and teachers the chance to see the intricate workings of the body’s interior through the visual display of donated human specimens.
The 150 anatomical specimens – whole bodies as well as organs and other body parts donated for the benefit of public education - have gone through a meticulous year long process of ‘plastination’. The resultant specimens illustrate how lifestyle decisions impact the wellbeing and health of our body.
With support from Partners Life Insurance, ATEED and Life Education Trust, BODY WORLDS Vital is a life changing opportunity to educate students on human biology and anatomy.
The exhibition has garnered significant interest from schools across the country already planning to include the event in their curriculum and many set to bring the entire school. John O’Connell, CEO of Life Education Trust, says BODY WORLDS Vital is going to be a fascinating experience for students, teachers and the community alike.
“There’s nothing more powerful than seeing the inner workings of a real human body to capture children’s understanding and empower them to make positive lifestyle change. We’re really excited to see the response from school groups. Life Education are currently developing student learning booklets to aid teachers preparing to attend this exhibition.” O’Connell says.
Teaching children the magnificence of the human body, how it functions and how we keep it healthy is one of the organisation’s founding principles.
The BODY WORLDS exhibitions were founded by anatomist and scientist Dr. Gunther von Hagens, inventor of the plastination process and Dr. Angelina Whalley physician and conceptual designer curating one of the world’s most successful travelling exhibitions since their inception. On display since 1995, BODY WORLDS has attracted more than 45 million visitors in over 120 cities across America, Africa, Asia and Europe, and XPO Events’ Managing Director, Brent Spillane expects New Zealand’s interest levels to match those of other host nations.
“A chance to marvel at what lies beneath the skin, the exhibition explores how everything we do – exercise, diet, smoking – impacts our bodies. Two thirds of global visitors walk away making positive changes to their own health and wellbeing, so we hope to influence similar positive change with many 1000s of event goers at home.”
The event opening will play host to Dr. Angelina Whalley, CEO and President of the Institute for Plastination as well as creative and conceptual designer of all BODY WORLDS exhibitions. Her work includes the presentation of the exhibition for optimal aesthetic, thematic and didactic value. Dr. Whalley will be available for media interviews during the exhibit preview.
BODY WORLDS Vital tickets go on sale from the 9th February and opens in Auckland on the 23rd April 2018. For ticketing and more information, visit www.bodyworldsvital.com.
